ABOUT MK BUILDERS OF WEST TEXAS

Mackenzie Kemp is the founder and owner of MK Builders of West Texas. Mackenzie will be your point of contact through the entirety of your project.

Mackenzie is a graduate of Rice University, where she earned a B.A. in Economics. In addition to contracting and construction, her background includes extensive knowledge in finance and investment. After college, her career took her to New York City, where she joined the team at Merrill Lynch. While with the company, she oversaw investment deals averaging $40 billion. She later started her own consulting firm to lend her services to clients seeking a professional with her specific knowledge base.  

On returning to Texas from New York, Mackenzie joined a financial advising practice as a partner, where she oversaw approximately $180 million under management. She left the workforce in August 2016 to welcome her first child, Walker, into the world. While on leave, she tackled several improvement projects at home, both structural and cosmetic in nature. She quickly identified a void in the Midland-Odessa market for prompt, reliable and quality general contracting firms. This inspired Mackenzie to take up the charge in filling this need herself.

While economics is her formal education, Mackenzie has spent much of her life in the construction realm. In fact, you could say she's a second-generation contractor: Her mother is a self-taught professional. 

Mackenzie grew up across the mid-west. Her father's career led to many relocations for the family - upwards of twenty moves across five different states during her childhood. She estimates her family lived in twenty-three different homes before she moved off for college. As a smart, disciplined and, as Mackenzie says, "a complete bad ass" woman, it didn't take long for her mother to discover she was capable of managing their remodels and new home builds herself. She leaned into her community for contacts, scoured the library for resources and soaked up all of the on-the-job experience she could. Mackenzie assisted her mother throughout the years, learning best practices for all facets of construction. Her mother instilled in her a passion for smart design and quality work, along with the immense importance of communication and expectation management involved in the building and remodeling process.

Since launching in 2018, Mackenzie and her hand-picked team of subcontractors, suppliers and partners have completed many turnkey projects, including new construction residences, commercial build-outs, home renovations and a multitude of general improvements. MK Builders of West Texas was named Midland Reporter-Telegram's 2020 Readers' Choice 'Bronze' for Remodeling and General Contracting, and in 2021 received the top spot of 'Gold' in each category. Word is quickly traveling from satisfied clients that MK Builders of West Texas is the preferred choice for general contracting services in the greater Midland-Odessa area. 

Mackenzie resides in Midland, Texas with her husband, Josh Kemp, and their two sons, Walker and Michael. Josh is the Director of Business Strategy and Analytics at Cudd Energy Services, where his father was also employed for many years. Together, the family enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors.
